Rock check at your School

What we offer

An expert Earth scienst will come to your School to check your collections of rocks, minerals and fossils to see if they are useful for your teaching needs. They will identify specimens, help with curating and identifying any toxic or dangerous minerals.

Our Team will also be able to advise you and your School what to do with hazardous minerals or how to build your collection further. Many Schools shave benefited from this service.

To book a Rock Check please use the booking page. Rock Checks are free if the School hosts a Professional Development workshop. For non-PD Rock Checks please see our Fees page for pricing.

Why check your rock collection?

With each School visit we offer a free rock and mineral check:

  • To identify specimens no longer useful for teaching (e.g., pebbles, small specimens etc.)
  • To identify any misplaced specimens or valuable specimens (for display only)
  • To identify any hazardous material (e.g., asbestos, pitchblende etc.)

We can also advise you on any missing specimens that would complete a collection or how to set up the collection so it is future proof (e.g., labelling, curation etc.). Our Team can also advise Schools on other resources that are used in identifying rocks and minerals in the classroom (e.g., hand lenses, microscopes, streak plate etc.)

TESEP also supplies Rock and Mineral kits for Schools with small or incomplete collections. You can view these products on the Haines Educational website or see our TESEP Resources page.
