8:30-9:45am FIELDTRIP for teachers/labtechs- Adelong Historic Gold Mill and Igneous rocks in the town – meet at the historic site for a local geology overview, before exploring the use of Adelong norite/gabbro in local building construction - Adelong Falls Gold Mill Ruins, Adelong Falls Rd, Adelong NSW 2729. - Year 4 to 10
10.30 to 12.30pm: Rocks and Critical Minerals. Introduction to the TESEP kits and teaching resources: integrated teaching of rocks/minerals in the plate tectonics and rock cycle context, with rock/mineral stories, 3D renders/virtual teaching. Hands-on activities to describe rocks, rock cycle examples, and their use in society, by First Nations Australians and for the energy transition. Curriculum topics for years 4 to 9.
1.00 to 3.00pm: Life, Fossils and the 5 Big Extinctions. Explores the plate tectonics setting, volcanic-climate-changing events at the 5 Big Extinctions, taking you on a journey through geologic time, fossil changes and big picture changes in water, atmosphere, geography and soil - livability through the ages. Curriculum topics for years 9 to 12, with STEM, biology-geography-climate science crossover.
