PD1 Round and Round with Rocks - Ballarat

Understanding rocks and minerals is essential to understanding how materials are cycled through the Earth over time. This PD will take you on a guided journey through the rock cycle from intrusion to mineralised veins, volcano to sediment and everything in between. It will touch on how we mine and utilise geo-resources.


At the completion of this workshop teachers will be equipped with the background information and resources, including some practical activities, to assist them with teaching the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum,
particularly Science at the Year 8 level.

PD 9 Plate Tectonics taster - Ballarat

This PD explains how the theory of Plate Tectonics was developed and how this relatively new paradigm not only explains why the Earth is so dynamic but also how it can be used to reconstruct the past appearance of the planet, predict the most likely locations of mineral and hydrocarbon deposits and explain the distribution patterns of fossil and extant animals and plants.

At the completion of this workshop teachers and laboratory technicians will be equipped with the background information and resources, including some practical activities, to assist them with teaching the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum, particularly Science at the Year 9 level.

PD10 3D Visualisations - Ballarat

3D visualisationis a technology that enables teachers and students to access 3D imagery of geological features. Virtual field trips around Australia and viewing high standard specimens are now possible! Workshop participants will be shown how to view and manipulate the imagery to see outcrops, rocks, mineral and fossils in 3D. Participants will learn how to teach their students the process of collecting data from the imagery and how to label images to demonstrate their geological understanding. Classroom ready worksheets will also be available for participants.
